Abstract
Psychological condition is an important aspect of human life as it is related to emotions, personality, and adaptive abilities. This study aims to describe the process of need fulfillment and analyze the interrelationships among different levels of needs in relation to the psychological development of Cha Mu-hee in the drama Can This Love Be Translated?. Cha Mu-hee is portrayed as a famous actress who experiences dissociative identity disorder (DID) as a result of childhood trauma, yet continues to undergo psychological development. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method using a literary psychology approach based on Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory through the analysis of scenes and dialogues in the drama. The findings showed that Cha Mu-hee’s psychological development was shaped through a gradual and interconnected process of need fulfillment. This process was influenced by childhood trauma, which affected her self-perception, emotional relationships, and ability to accept affection from others. Through the recovery process, Cha Mu-hee was able to overcome inner conflicts and establish healthier emotional relationships, ultimately achieving psychological maturity.
